Switching to Manual with Michael Madsen

Boyce Thompson Arboretum State Park

February 2, 2019   10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Gilbert artist Michael Madsen will be offering a beginning to intermediate photography workshop on switching to manual. Madsen has traveled much of Arizona in search of the perfect picture; on this Saturday he will coach beginning to intermediate photographers who are ready to harness the horsepower of their digital cameras by getting past the "auto" settings in favor of manually controlling their own aperture, shutter speeds, and ISO. The workshop includes two hours in the classroom from 10 am to noon, followed by a lunch break, and then two more hours from 1:30-3:00 p.m. spent outside shooting and practicing in Arboretum gardens.

"We'll switch your camera to manual mode and take charge of your camera, exploring the creative side of photography," says Madsen. "You'll be taught how to adjust your camera settings, and the photographic effects that occur based on these settings. Heading outdoors after lunch allows us to apply techniques students have learned, and experiment with camera settings together and one-on-one."
