Composting Talk with Local Expert

Oracle State Park

May 18, 2024   9-11 a.m.

Do you find yourself wringing your hands and feeling guilty every time you throw your household food scraps into the garbage? Let's solve that problem! Learn the ins and outs of household and community composting in a talk and hands-on demonstration by Linda Leigh, Compost Curator (or Compost Chef) at the Oracle Community Learning Garden.

At the Kannally Ranch House from 9 to 10 a.m., we will discuss the reasons to compost, compost recipes, and methods of composting such as chop and drop, static pile and worm composting. What is the life inside a compost pile that makes it all happen? It's a complex food web!

Next, we will adjourn to the Oracle Community Learning Garden a mile down the road to look at our composting methods and some of the compost results of our local composters. If you would like, please bring a quart of your own compost and a story to tell about your composting efforts. The demo will end around 11 a.m.
