Little Painted Desert County Park

La Posada Hotel
Located in Winslow, the La Posada was built in 1929 as one of the grand railroad hotels. It has extensive gardens, historic rooms and fine dining (although many diners are wearing jeans and T-shirts!). The railroad crossed the Little Colorado at this point for the same reason that the prehistoric trails used this ford — rock layers close to the surface of the river bed prevented the development of quicksand.

9-11 Memorial Remembrance Garden
The 9-11 Memorial Garden is dedicated to the tragic events of that September day in 2001 and Northern Arizona’s promise that “we will never forget”. The Remembrance Garden is located on the corner of East 3rd Street and Transcon Lane. (from I-40, exit 255). There you will find, as the centerpiece of the garden, the touching display of actual wreckage from the World Trade Center. The 14- and 15-foot beams were entrusted to the citizens of Winslow by the City of New York. They are the largest pieces given to any community in the nation.

Old Trails Museum
The Winslow Historical Society operates this excellent community museum. It illustrates the ranching, railroad, and Native American history of the community. Call (928) 289-5861 for more information.

"Standin’ on the Corner" Park
Located in Winslow, this park celebrates the song "Take It Easy." Written by Glenn Frey and Jackson Browne, "Take It Easy" became The Eagles first hit single in the 1970s, and created interest in Winslow.

First Street Pathway
A six block long strip park and walkway connecting the historic La Posada and the old Hubbel Trading Post. The park illustrates the diverse culture of Winslow.

Meteor Crater
Near Winslow, Arizona. Experience the impact! The best preserved meteor impact site on earth. Complete with museum, theater, gift shop and country store.

McHood Lake
A small reservoir lake located southeast of Winslow. This lake is stocked with trout. A canoe or raft can be paddled upstream for viewing of petroglyphs.

Rock Art Canyon Ranch
Located on a private ranch between Winslow and Holbrook, the Chevelon Steps are known for their excellent display of petroglyphs. The rancher will take visitors to the site, where he has installed a platform overlooking the canyon and he has improved the steps cut into the side of the canyon. This is a somewhat strenuous, although short, climb. Members of your group not wishing to make this climb can enjoy the shaded view from the platform. There is a fee to visit this site. Contact the park for contact information at (928) 386-5047.
