Celebrate Arizona's Wildlife

September 1, 2024

September 4th is National Wildlife Day, but we’re celebrating Arizona's diverse and captivating wildlife species for the entire month in Arizona’s state parks. Arizona is home to an incredible variety of species, and our parks are the perfect place to view these animals in their natural habitats.

Most Arizona state parks are nestled within prime wildlife habitats, making them ideal locations for spotting your favorite species. To enhance your wildlife watching adventure and increase your odds of finding animals during your trip, bring a pair of binoculars, walk slowly and quietly, and use all your senses (sight, hearing, and smell) to detect wildlife. Position yourself so the wind is in your face, and keep an eye out for movement or glimpses of animals through the trees or brush.

We know it’s easy to get caught up in an exciting moment but please remember to keep a safe, respectful distance from all wildlife. For the best viewing experience, head out in the early morning or late evening when animals are most active, seeking food and water. Many of Arizona's state parks offer campgrounds and cabins that make the perfect basecamp for your wildlife adventure giving you quick access to the best trails and allowing you to stay longer to increase your odds of a life changing wildlife encounter.

We also want to take a moment to thank our dedicated park rangers for preserving these precious habitats. Their hard work ensures that Arizona's wildlife continues to thrive in Arizona’s state parks. It’s also important to express gratitude to the Arizona Game and Fish Department, the lead stewards of wildlife in our state, for their tireless efforts in conservation.

So this September, celebrate Arizona’s wildlife by experiencing them at your favorite state park. Immerse yourself in the beauty of nature, discover the magic of wildlife, and create wild memories that will last a lifetime.
