Catalina State Park Invites Visitors to
Walk With a Shelter Dog on Dec. 14

December 4, 2025

PHOENIX – Catalina State Park and Pima Animal Care Center (PACC) invite visitors to walk a shelter dog at the park on Dec. 14 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event offers the public a way to give back while getting outdoors.

The program also serves as an enrichment activity for dogs in the care of PACC, giving them a chance to socialize in a new environment while getting exercise and meeting potential adopters on the trail.

Catalina State Park hosted PACC for the first time last April, where three dogs were adopted. "It's great to know that the dogs will enjoy stretching their legs and getting some love at the park," said Steve Haas, park manager. "Our team works hard not only to provide a beautiful, well-maintained place for people to recreate, but also to find ways that give back to the community as well." Catalina State Park hosts multiple events during the cooler weather months, including nature programs, night hikes, bird and geology walks, and the popular Music in the Mountains concert series. The park also offers a traveling reptile program that visits Title I schools and juvenile correction facilities.
