12th Annual Granite Mountain Hotshots Remembrance Event Planned at Yarnell Hill Fire Memorial
June 24, 2025
PHOENIX - The 12th annual remembrance event of the Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshots Crew will be held at the Yarnell Hill Fire Memorial on June 30, 2025 at 4 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
The park and this event honor the lives and heroism of the 19 members of the hotshot crew who lost their lives in the line of duty on June 30, 2013. These elite wildland firefighters battled the fast-moving Yarnell Hill Fire to protect the community of Yarnell, and their sacrifice are always remembered.
Representatives from the Yarnell Area Resource Group and Arizona State Parks and Trails will preside over the remembrance event. The Yarnell Area Resource Group was originally founded after the fire to coordinate recovery efforts of the community’s lost homes and structures. The group exists today to honor the memory of the Hotshots and the town’s loss, and to support the future of Yarnell.
The Yarnell Hill Recovery Group developed and opened the Yarnell Hill Fire Memorial Park in 2019. In May 2023, the group turned management of the park over to Arizona State Parks and Trails. The agency also operates the Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial State Park, which was opened in 2016 and is located two miles southwest of Yarnell, off State Route 89.
