Arizona State Parks Partners with Historic Brewing Company to Launch Slide Rock Blonde Coffee Stout

Specialty brew honors iconic Arizona park, tasting event set for April 2025

One of the state’s most visited parks is now the namesake of a new craft beer. Arizona State Parks and Trails and Historic Brewing Company have teamed up to create a limited-edition specialty brew inspired by the scenic beauty and rich history of Slide Rock State Park in Sedona. This specialty beer is the second release in a collaborative series celebrating Arizona’s state parks, and tickets for the event are available now.

To mark the occasion, Slide Rock State Park will host a tasting event on April 11, 2025, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Guests will enjoy two complimentary beer tastings, wood-fired pizza by Pizzicletta, live music, a guided interpretive program on the park’s homestead history, a variety of other Historic Brewing Company beers available for purchase, and a raffle drawing for a Flagstaff staycation including guided tours of the brewery and of Riordan Mansion State Historic Park. Event proceeds benefit the Friends of Slide Rock State Park, a volunteer group that does fundraising, special projects, and events for the park. Tickets are $30 per person and can be purchased online at HistoricBrewingCompany.com/AZ-State-Parks.

“This specialty brew tastes amazing thanks to locally roasted coffee from Sedona’s own Freeform Coffee, and it’s the perfect way to honor one of Arizona’s most treasured outdoor destinations,” said John Kennelly, co-founder of Kennelly Family Concepts, Inc., which owns Historic Brewing Company. “Slide Rock is not just a spectacular swimming spot, it’s a piece of Arizona history. We’re thrilled to help shine a light on its preservation.”

The beer can artwork highlights a snowy scene at Slide Rock, showcasing the park’s beauty in the quieter off-season months. Michelle Thompson, deputy assistant director at Arizona State Parks and Trails, emphasized the importance of encouraging year-round visitation: “Slide Rock is iconic in the summer, but the park’s winter charm is sometimes overlooked. Through this partnership, we’re excited to invite people to experience recreation here outside of the popular summer season. Winter, spring, and fall are all great opportunities to escape the crowds and enjoy nature photography, hiking, birding, exploring homestead history, and wildlife watching at this scenic park.”

The Slide Rock Blonde Coffee Stout follows the 2024 debut of this line of specialty state park brews that launched with the Kannally Ranch House Mexican Lager, inspired by the historic ranch house at Oracle State Park near Tucson. The specialty beer is available at Historic Brewing Company’s locations in Flagstaff and Williams, Arizona, with 10% of the sales benefiting Arizona State Parks and Trails. The agency is self-sustaining and relies on donations and park fees to fund the operations of Arizona's state parks.
