Arizona State Parks and Trails Announces Partnership with TerrainHopper USA to Improve Accessibility in the Parks
April 15, 2026
PHOENIX – On May 1, Arizona State Parks and Trails, in partnership with TerrainHopper USA and Hoppers for Heroes, will launch the first mobility vehicle in the parks with an event at Rockin’ River Ranch State Park in Camp Verde. The event will mark the availability of the first of 10 TerrainHoppers in the parks.
The launch event of the Arizona Adaptive Mobility Program (AAMP) will feature TerrainHoppers available for test rides from members of the public, as well as speeches by Arizona State Parks and Trails Executive Director Bob Broscheid and TerrainHopper USA President Todd Lemay. Entrance fees to the park will be waived from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for the event.
TerrainHoppers are electric-powered off-road mobility vehicles engineered to conquer mud, soft beach sand, rocks, steep hills and other obstacles. They give users the ability to participate in outdoor activities with friends and family. TerrainHoppers can be used by mobility-impaired people on designated trails in Arizona’s state parks. The vehicles give people the freedom to explore the outdoors and enjoy outdoor recreation.
“This program will make a meaningful difference for visitors to Arizona’s state parks,” said Executive Director Bob Broscheid. “Enabling more people to feel invited, welcome, and independent in our parks is our goal. We’re thrilled that this amazing partnership with TerrainHopper and Hoppers for Heroes will benefit so many people.”
Hoppers for Heroes, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to expanding outdoor accessibility, raised nearly $300,000 to donate 10 TerrainHoppers to Arizona State Parks and Trails. The program provides grants, community partnerships, and hands-on events that allow participants to explore trails, parks, and natural areas that would otherwise be inaccessible. The availability of TerrainHoppers will make existing trails in the selected parks immediately accessible without the need for costly, time-consuming landscape modifications or capital improvement projects. Instead of potentially waiting years for accessibility improvements, this initiative allows more people to begin enjoying Arizona’s parks right away. The donation includes ongoing maintenance for the equipment, as well as training on its usage.
“This partnership represents the very heart of why TerrainHopper was created—to break down barriers and restore the freedom to experience the outdoors without limits,” said Todd Lemay, president of TerrainHopper USA. “We are incredibly honored to stand alongside Arizona State Parks and Trails and Hoppers for Heroes in expanding access to some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the country.”
The TerrainHopper located at Rockin’ River Ranch State Park is the first to be available to the public as part of the Arizona Adaptive Mobility Program. Visitors can reserve the TerrainHopper online prior to their visit and experience trails at the park. The nine additional TerrainHoppers will be rolled out at other park locations in the coming months. The program is a pathway to adventure, connection, independence, and unforgettable moments with family and friends. For many individuals living with mobility challenges, memories will now be made in places once thought to be out of reach and the joy of the outdoors can be fully experienced again.
“This donation represents the first phase of a much larger vision—to help make Arizona State Parks and Trails one of the most accessible state park systems in the nation. At Hoppers for Heroes, we believe access to the outdoors should not be limited by mobility challenges. By placing these TerrainHoppers in Arizona’s state parks, we are creating new opportunities for individuals and families to experience Arizona’s natural beauty in a meaningful and inclusive way,” said Hopper for Heroes Board Member Michael Garnreiter. “With continued donor support and community investment, we look forward to expanding this program, increasing access statewide, and reaching even more people whose lives can be impacted by the freedom, independence, and joy of outdoor recreation.”
TerrainHopper reservations will be available at Rockin’ River Ranch State Park starting May 1 by calling (928) 284-7912. By the end of May, reservations will be available online for up to 60 days in advance at Rockin’ River Ranch, Lake Havasu and Oracle state parks, with additional parks added as TerrainHoppers are built and delivered to the parks.
