Arizona State Historic Preservation Office Announces the Annual Governor's Heritage Preservation Honor Awards

PHOENIX – Eight winners will be announced for the 2024 Governor's Heritage Preservation Honor Awards during the annual Arizona Historic Preservation Conference on June 26, 2024 in Prescott, Ariz.

Since 1982, the Arizona Preservation Foundation and State Historic Preservation Office, a division of Arizona State Parks and Trails, have partnered to present the Governor's Heritage Honor Preservation Awards. The awards recognize people, organizations, and projects that represent outstanding achievements in preserving Arizona's prehistoric and historic resources.

"For over three decades, these awards have served to honor the achievements of individuals and organizations who have worked tirelessly to preserve Arizona’s heritage for future generations,” said State Historic Preservation Officer Kathryn Leonard.

The top honor of the day, the James W. Garrison Grand Award, will be announced at the ceremony. The award, named for retired state historic preservation officer, Jim Garrison, is personally selected by Governor Katie Hobbs from all conference award winners.

The 2024 Governor’s Heritage Preservation Honor awardees are:

  • Conservation of Mission San Jose Tumacacori, Santa Cruz County
  • Donna Reiner, Ph. D., Lifetime Achievement, Phoenix
  • 1929 Fuller Pain Company Warehouse Rehabilitation & Adaptive Reuse, Phoenix
  • Linda L. Mayro, M. A., Lifetime Achievement, Pima County
  • The Post- Historic Post Office Rehabilitation, Mesa
  • Monroe Street Abbey Rehabilitation Project, Phoenix
  • Randolph Community Historic District, Randolph
  • Western Heritage Center, Prescott

The awards ceremony will be held at the Elks Theatre in downtown Prescott on Wednesday, June 26 at 4:30 p.m. Registration for the awards ceremony is not required; however, registration and payment is required for attendance at the reception that will follow.
