Fort Verde State Historic Park is in the center of the Town of Camp Verde, located in the Verde Valley. Phoenix, Prescott and Flagstaff are all within an hour's drive of Fort Verde. Within the Verde Valley we have three National Monuments, two National Forests, four state parks, several museums, swimming, fishing, motels, RV parks, shopping centers, campgrounds and plenty of good dining. Prescott National Forest
Comprised of about 1.25 million acres, the Prescott borders three other National Forests in Arizona: Kaibab, Coconino, and Tonto. At the lowest elevation, the primary vegetation is of the Sonoran Desert type. As the elevation rises, chaparral becomes common, followed by piñon pine and juniper. Above that, Ponderosa pine dominates the landscape.
Coconino National Forest
The Coconino National Forest is one of the most diverse National Forests in the country with landscapes ranging from the famous Red Rocks of Sedona to Ponderosa pine forests, to alpine tundra. Explore mountains and canyons, fish forest lakes and wade in lazy creeks and streams.
Tuzigoot National Monument
Crowning a desert hilltop is an ancient pueblo. From a roof top a child scans the desert landscape for the arrival of traders, who are due any day now. What riches will they bring? What stories will they tell? Will all of them return? From the top of the Tuzigoot Pueblo it is easy to imagine such an important moment. Tuzigoot is an ancient village or pueblo built by a culture known as the Sinagua. The pueblo consisted of 110 rooms including second and third story structures. The first buildings were built around A.D. 1000. The Sinagua were agriculturalists with trade connections that spanned hundreds of miles. The people left the area around 1400. The site is currently comprised of 42 acres.
Montezuma Castle National Monument
Gaze through the windows of the past into one of the best preserved cliff dwellings in North America. This 20 room high-rise apartment, nestled into a towering limestone cliff, tells a 1,000 year-old story of ingenuity and survival in an unforgiving desert landscape. Marveling at this enduring legacy of the Sinagua culture reveals a people surprisingly similar to ourselves.
Clemenceau Museum
The Clemenceau Heritage Museum is maintained and operated by volunteers from the non-profit Verde Historical Society. The museum preserves and displays the artifacts and heritage - written, oral, living - of the Verde Valley. Admission is free, donations gratefully accepted. Jerome Historical Society
The Jerome Historical Society’s Mine Museum, located on Main Street, has numerous displays depicting life in Jerome from its beginnings to its present time. Another way the Historical Society preserves the past for the present is through its large archives. With over 11,000 photos, numerous maps, newspapers and documents all filed and easily accessed with the assistance of our Archivist, researchers are welcome.
Sedona Historical Society
The Sedona Historical Society's mission is to research, preserve and teach the history of the greater Sedona area. This Museum focuses on the lifestyles and works of the people who pioneered the community, from 1876 to the present.

Verde Canyon Railroad
The remote wilderness of the Verde Canyon, located west of Sedona and below Jerome, is renowned for its towering red rock pinnacles and clean, green waters. This train rolls past Indian ruins, through a 680-foot man-made tunnel, over old-fashioned trestles and under clear azure skies. Leaves from Clarkdale.
