Typically the month of May brings with it the first 100 degree temperatures. The daytime high continues to hover around the 100-degree mark through the summer. The hot daytime temperatures are perfect for taking a dip in the swimming area. Hiking and fishing are best enjoyed during the cool mornings or evenings during this time of year. Usually by the month of July, the afternoon temperatures are cooled off by monsoon thunderstorms. These storms build up nearly every afternoon, and while they don't always produce rain they do darken the skies and cool the air. When the rain does fall it is often a heavy rain over a short period of time. The lightning displays this time of year can be incredible.

In October the weather begins a transition to cooler temperatures. This can be a great time to visit the park. The fishing is usually great as the water temps gradually begin to cool down, and the fish stay active throughout the day. The swimming area can also still be popular this time of year until the water turns cold. This transition to cooler weather also tends to mark the beginning of the camping season in nearby Roper Lake State Park.

The park can be busy year-round with campers from nearby Roper Lake State Park, fall through the spring is the peak camping season. Daytime temps this time of year are nearly perfect, usually in the 60s to 70s. Overnight temperatures are typically in the 30s to 40s. Birding and wildlife viewing is best enjoyed during this time.

Snow in the park is very rare. The temperatures during January and February will drop into the teens or even single digits on occasion when a cold front is moving through, otherwise the mild winters in this part of the state are terrific.
