Evening Lecture: Mary Russell Ferrell Colton-Mary Jane Colter-the Confusion
Riordan Mansion State Historic Park
February 2, 2018 7:00 p.m.
Mary-Russell Ferrell Colton – Mary Elizabeth Jane Colter – the Confusion. Who did what? Were they the same person? The public is often confused about these two women, but they were two very distinctive women, both a part of changing the West. Mary Colter, while employed by Fred Harvey, was an architect of the 1900s when women architects were rare. She dreamed of and designed many of the structures at the Grand Canyon as well as many of the Harvey Houses along the Santa Fe Railroad. Colter and Colton were active in Arizona during the early 1900s. Did they ever meet? Do you know?
