Between 1906 and 1918, songs about cowboys in the West populated the American soundscape in the years before radio, and after the close of the frontier.  At the same time, these "Tin Pan Alley" ditties reflected broader cultural ideas about race, ethnicity, and gender in Jim Crow America.  This presentation will expose these songs to event visitors through period sheet music as we listen to them on period hand-cranked Edison cylinder and Victrola 78 Talking Machines.
