Fort Verde State Historic Park Celebrates Fort Verde Days with the Town of Camp Verde on October 8-9
September 21, 2016
PHOENIX - Fort Verde Days serves as the Town of Camp Verde's annual homecoming and celebrates the military post around which the town grew. The Fort Verde Days celebration will be held throughout the weekend in Camp Verde on Saturday, October 8 and Sunday, October 9, 2016. Fort Verde State Historic Park will host events during Fort Verde Days in conjunction with town events and will offer a chance to get a glimpse of the past on the grounds of the original military post. This is a fee FREE weekend at the Fort.
Visit Fort Verde State Historic Park during Fort Verde Days on Saturday (9am-5pm) and Sunday (9am-2pm). There will be flag-raising and lowering ceremonies, artillery demonstrations, living history presentations with re-enactors, Dutch oven cooking demonstrations, military drills and a vintage baseball game. Cheer on the Fort Verde Excelsiors, as they take on the Glendale Gophers, or listen to Dr. Sam Palmer as he presents the history of the Battle of Big Dry Wash, the last skirmish. This year's Fort Verde Days will include the "Scarecrows Around Town" contest, which invites visitors to help judge the favorite homemade scarecrow.
The entire family is invited to this event as the Town of Camp Verde celebrates with additional activities held in the community center, on the soccer field and throughout the town - including the 60th annual Fort Verde Days parade on Saturday at 10 a.m. This year's theme is "Let's go to the Hop." Visit campverdepromotions.org for information about events going on in the Town of Camp Verde.
The events at Fort Verde State Historic Park would not be possible without the generous support and partnership from the Town of Camp Verde and Camp Verde Promotions. For more information about Fort Verde State Historic Park visit AZStateParks.com or call (928) 567-3275.
