PHOENIX - Kartchner Caverns was recently nominated for USA Today's 10 Best Caves. The competition is intense, but Arizona State Parks is working to get out the vote, and encourages all Kartchner Caverns fans to cast their vote daily through April 11, 2016 athttp://www.10best.com/awards/travel/best-cave/kartchner-caverns-benson-ariz/. Last year, Slide Rock State Park was named one of America's "Top 10 Swimming Holes" by the same Reader's Choice group.

Kartchner Caverns State Park was discovered in 1974 and is host to a wide variety of unique minerals and formations. Water percolates from the surface and calcite formations continue to grow, including stalactites dripping down like icicles and giant stalagmites reaching up from the ground.
