PHOENIX — Arizona’s best destinations are just a road trip away, and a long weekend is the perfect opportunity to hit the road! Discover scenic drives, awesome hikes, and fascinating culture in Arizona’s state parks! The red rock views along a trail at Red Rock State Park

  1. Red Rock Views: Head north from Phoenix to explore red rock country, and spend your day picnicking and hiking at Red Rock State Park! Plenty of trails wind under dense, green tree cover to keep you cool and lead you to panoramic overlooks of Sedona.
  2. Ancestral Hopi Pueblos at Homolovi State Park: Archaeological sites dating back hundreds of years share the desert with campgrounds on the edge of the Little Colorado River! Homolovi State Park is a hidden gem full of Arizona history.
  3. Mount Graham's Shadow: Roper Lake, and its nearby counterpart Dankworth Pond, offers swimming, fishing, and fun for the family this holiday weekend! With Mount Graham’s impressive skyline as its backdrop, Roper Lake is a gorgeous destination with comfy camping cabins so you can kick back and stay awhile.
  4. Arizona's "West Coast": Buckskin Mountain State Park is a desert oasis downriver from Lake Havasu State Park, and a quieter spot to avoid the crowds. Grab a spot on the beach and launch your boat near your campsite! When you get back, relax with dinner and a cold drink on the shore.

No matter what adventure you choose, set out with a plan and plenty of water! Even as summer comes to a close, the heat of the sun sticks around, so stay hydrated and be prepared!
