Hike through the beautiful Whetstone Mountains at sunset on the Ocotillo Trail or the Foothills Loop Trail!
The Foothills Loop Trail is approximately 2.5 miles, rated moderate to difficult. The trail climbs across rocky terrain of the limestone hill north of the cave and descends into the wash that follows the fault between the Whetstone Block and the San Pedro Block. A short spur trail at the upper portion of the Foothills Loop Trail leads visitors to the scenic Mountain Viewpoint. The viewpoint adds .3 miles up and .3 back down with a steep elevation gain.
The Ocotillo Trail is 1.7-mile addition to the Foothills Loop Trail. The full loop encompasses both trail segments and is about 3.2 miles in total. The trail has a gentle yet steady elevation gain across rocky terrain until the halfway point on the trail. The trail offers sweeping views of the San Pedro River valley as well as the Dragoon mountains.
$7/vehicle entry includes up to four adults. Pparticipants should wear appropriate footwear, and bring a flashlight and plenty of water.
