7am @ Scheduled Hike Meeting Location, Every Sunday, come and explore the trails of Catalina State Park and the Santa Catalina Mountains through these guided morning hikes. Led by Catalina State Park volunteer and experienced hiker Gaston, come and see the park in a new light! Hike difficultly varies; hikers are required to carry plenty of water and snacks, and wear proper clothing, shoes, and hats. Please call Hike Leader Gaston @ 520-638- 5404, for upcoming hike information and to register. Registration closes at 4pm on the Saturday prior to the scheduled hike. Hikes subject to cancellations or changes depending on weather conditions and hike attendance.
April: Festival of the Sun, Solar Potluck & Exhibition
Solar power options are explored at the annual Solar Potluck & Exhibition.
In the Gila Monster Group Area.Arizonans all know it really is hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk in July, but did you know you can bake cookies in the park in April? This annual community event celebrates of the sun. Experience the flavors of solar-cooked food and enjoy solar-powered music, family activities, solar appliances and exhibitions (ovens, fountains, coolers, lights, water heating, electrical systems) and solar arts. The event also features live-music on a solar-powered stage, children's activities and discussion/lectures with community experts.
Make sure you wear comfortable shoes, a brimmed hat and sunscreen.
