(Phoenix, AZ - September 12, 2012) - Kartchner Caverns State Park, an internationally designated "Global Star Park," will host a Star Party on September 15. The afternoon solar viewing will begin at 1pm until 4pm with the evening program starting at 5:30pm in the Discovery Center Theater.
Visitors will be invited to view distant star clusters and galaxies through telescopes of the Huachuca Astronomy Club and the Astronomers of the Verde Valley. Jeremy Moss, Archaeologist and Resource Manager at Tumacacori National Historical Park, will discuss Archaeoastronomy in the American Southwest (a broad view of how prehistoric people used astronomy in their daily lives.)
Kartchner Caverns State Park is located on Highway 90, nine miles south of I-10 near Benson, Arizona and is open daily. The park entrance fee is $6 per vehicle for up to four adults and $3 per adult for each additional person. Reservations for camping can now also be made on the online reservation system for $25. Bring a folding chair, red flashlight and a jacket for the evening star viewing. The Bat Café and gift shop will be open late for this special event.
