Language of Flowers Show & Chocolate Tasting at Boyce Thompson Arboretum State Park, February 12-15

(Phoenix, AZ - February 5, 2010) - Experience the romantic language of flowers and sample decadent chocolates from the Cerreta Candy Company of Glendale at Boyce Thompson Arboretum's Language of Flowers Show and Chocolate Tasting on February 12-15 from 8 am - 5 pm. The Arboretum's historic Smith building will be filled to overflowing with an incredible selection of fresh cut flowers and flowering plants, all labeled with the interpretations of their meanings.

Send your sweetheart a gardenia and it means "I love you in secret." A white rose means "I am worthy of you." A red rose symbolizes love, passion, and desire. Choose a yellow rose, however, and the symbolism swings towards jealousy, infidelity, and bad luck. This silent language has been in use since ancient Persian times and it has made it possible for lovers to exchange messages, armed with only the right flower to convey their innermost sentiments.

The unspoken language of flowers has evolved, over time, due to the influence of different cultures and floral regions, each culture adding their own unique lore and meaning. Common flowers that are shared by multiple cultures can oftentimes have multiple--even opposite-- meanings, leading to unpredictable results with potential cross-cultural relationships.

The Arboretum staff have scoured florists throughout south-central Arizona, visited countless plants nurseries, and grown dozens of plants in Arboretum greenhouses to bring together a one-of-a-kind display of flowers for this special Valentine's Day weekend. Bring your special someone and your sweet tooth and spend a romantic, early spring day at Boyce Thompson Arboretum.
