Help Promote Parks; Volunteer Training Meeting July 23rd in Phoenix

(Phoenix, Arizona - July 9, 2009) - An Outreach Ambassador Training Meeting will be held on Thursday, July 23 from 5:30 - 8:30pm in the Arizona State Parks offices at 1300 W. Washington St. in Phoenix. Pizza and Soda will be served.

Outreach Ambassadors will assist Arizona State Parks with dissemination of information regarding parks and programs. This primarily will be staffing information booths at community events in Maricopa County. Volunteers who are interested in further training may be asked to present general information to community groups (such as Kiwanis, etc.) regarding the park system, or specific parks, as needed. Volunteers need to be comfortable speaking one-on-one with people of all ages as well as being around large groups of people.

At this training meeting you will:

  • Learn basic facts about our parks and programs
  • Learn how to put up and take down display boards
  • Review brochures and hand-outs always available at our booth
  • Review booth information aids which will be available to you and general booth procedures
  • Review sign-up and volunteer time recording procedures

Also, we will be signing people up for our first assignment - staffing a booth at Cabelas Store in Glendale. More information is available at azstateparks.com/volunteer.

RSVP to Nicole Armstrong-Best, Volunteer Resources Planner at 602-542-4174 or e-mail narmstrong(at)azstateparks.gov.

The Arizona State Parks volunteer program has more than 800 Volunteers who actively participate in the program each year. These volunteers support all 30 State Parks and Natural Areas. Volunteers provided 174,063 hours to Arizona State Parks last year. That roughly equals 84 full-time employees. The park system employs 349 full-time staff members, thus the volunteer program provides 25% more staff time.
