(Phoenix Arizona - October 23, 2008) - On Saturday, November 22nd, 2008, Alamo Lake State Park will host its 2nd Annual A Night under the Stars event and Educators Workshop. Come learn and experience the beauty of our natural and cultural resource, the night sky.
Night under the Stars begins at 11 a.m. and will feature a Star Fair with family activities, Educators Workshop with astronomy presentations and a Star Party beginning at 7 p.m. (see full schedule below).
View the stars and constellations during the Star Party and, if you have one, please bring a red flashlight. There will be small red flashlights available so everyone will be able to participate in the fun and educational star party. Also bring any comfort items such as folding chairs, warm clothes, bug repellent, bottled water and snacks.
The Star Fair will be held under the big tent from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature educational booths and activities for children from NASA Educators Resource Center and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Stargazing for Everyone, LLC and Arizona State Parks booths. The Educators Workshop will feature four astronomy presentations.
For more information call Alamo Lake State Park at (928) 669-2088. Regular day use park fees will be waived for this event. Primitive to full hookup camping sites are available at a fee of $10 to $23 depending on the type of camping site needed.
Alamo Lake State Park is located 38 miles north of Wenden, Arizona and US 60. Wenden is two hours west of Phoenix north of Highway I-10. Alamo Lake State Park offers outdoor fun, premier fishing, rest and relaxation. Stargazers will enjoy the unbelievable view of the night sky since the nearest lights are 40 miles away.

11:00 am - Start of the event
11:00 am - 3:00 pm - Star Fair & Educators Workshop with family activities, gift shop vendors, educational booths, astronomy presentations and food vendors.
11:00 am -3:00 pm - Solar Viewing Demonstrations with Tony LaConte from Stargazing for Everyone, LLC. Come to the Stargazing for Everyone, LLC booth to see this demo! You will have the opportunity to safely view the sun in both "White
Light" and "H-Alpha Light" and see sunspots, solar flares and solar prominences... depending on the sun's activity for the day. If you have a digital camera you will also be able to photograph the sun.
11:30 am - Tour of the Night Sky Workshop Presentation with Tony LaConte from Stargazing for Everyone, LLC. This is a multi-media presentation about the night sky for the remainder of November and December. It will focus on the major constellations, bright stars, planets and upcoming special celestial events. Attendees will receive a star map for November and will learn how to use the star map. A question and answer session will follow the presentation.
12:30 pm - Astronomy Workshop Presentation with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Dr. Quentin G. Bailey, Assistant Professor of Physics and students from Sigma Pi Sigma- Physics Honor Society will be giving an astronomy presentation on binary stars and current research at ERAU.
1:30 pm - Your Newspaper: Portals to the Universe Workshop Presentation with Tony LaConte from Stargazing for Everyone, LLC. This presentation will show attendees how to use any newspaper to teach astronomical concepts. Topics will include the phases of the moon, the seasons, time zones and the equation of time, and much more. A question and answer session will follow the presentation.
2:30 pm - Amateur Astrophotography Workshop with JD Maddy, from Astronomers of Verde Valley. Come learn how even a simple digital camera and telescope can be used to capture the stars and inspire people to learn more about the night sky. This presentation on sky photography is for the amateur and or novice. It's something anyone can do with a digital camera. Don't forget to bring your camera to practice during the Star Party!
7:00 pm - Kick off to Star Party (weather permitting)
