Arizona State Parks Holds Public Meetings to Discuss Proposed Fee Changes

(Phoenix, Arizona - September 22, 2008) - Arizona State Parks will hold public meetings to discuss proposed fee changes. The public comment period will be from September 19, 2008 through October 8, 2008. The public is asked to attend and give comments about these fee changes at one of the five meetings held in different parts of the state.

Western Region public meeting for proposed fee changes will be held at the Water Safety Center in Lake Havasu City on Wednesday, October 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. The Water Safety Center is located at 1801 Highway 95 in Lake Havasu City.

Central Region public meeting for proposed fee changes will be held at the Burton Barr Public Library on Thursday, October 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. The Burton Barr Public Library is located at 1221 N. Central Ave. in Phoenix.

Southern Region public meeting for proposed fee changes will be held at Roper Lake State Park on Friday, October 3 beginning at 5 p.m. Roper Lake State Park is located at 101 E. Roper Lake Road in Safford.

Eastern Region public meeting for proposed fee changes will be held at McFarland State Historic Park on Tuesday, October 7 from 5 to 7 p.m. McFarland State Historic Park is located at 24 W. Ruggles in Florence.

Northern Region public meeting for proposed fee changes will be held at Dead Horse Ranch State Park on Tuesday, October 7 from 5 to 7 p.m. Dead Horse Ranch State Park is located at 675 Dead Horse Ranch Road in Cottonwood.

Comments are also accepted by filling out a survey on Arizona State Parks website at www.azstateparks.com or mail written comments to Arizona State Parks, Attn: Proposed Fee Changes, 1300 W. Washington St., Phoenix, Arizona 85007.

Some of the proposed changes will include the following:

  • Delete the “Off Season Rate” entrance fee structure for Catalina State Park, Patagonia Lake State Park, Roper Lake State Park, Tombstone Courthouse State Historic Park, and Tubac Presidio State Historic Park.
  • Increase the daily entrance fee at Red Rock State Park to $7.00.
  • Lower the “Over-Size Parking” fee at Lake Havasu State Park and Cattail Cove State Park to $5.00.
  • Increase the fee for “Ages 14 & up” to $3.00 at Fort Verde State Historic Park, and $4.00 at Tonto Natural Bridge State Park and Yuma Quartermaster Depot State Historic Park.
  • Restructure the entrance fee schedule at Fort Verde, Jerome, McFarland, Tombstone, Tubac Presidio, Yuma Territorial Prison, and Yuma Quartermaster Depot State Historic parks, and Tonto Natural Bridge State Park to charge children ages 7 to 13 $1.00. Children 6 years of age and under will remain free charge.
  • Increase the upper end of the fee range for “Non-electric Campsites” by $1.00 at Alamo Lake, Buckskin Mountain, River Island, Catalina, Dead Horse, Fool Hollow Lake, Homolovi Ruins, Lake Havasu, Lost Dutchman, Lyman Lake, Patagonia Lake, Picacho Peak State Parks. Increase the upper end of the fee range for “Non-electric Campsites” by $3.00 at Roper Lake State Park.
  • Increase the upper end of the fee range for “Electric Campsites” at Lyman Lake, Picacho Peak and Roper Lake State Parks to $25.00.
  • Increase the upper-limit of the range for “Cabana or Boat Site” at Cattail Cove State Park to $20.00.
  • Increase the range for “Cabin” at Roper Lake State Park to $50.00 - $75.00.
  • Decrease to “Group Day-Use” and “Group Camping” reservation to $5.00.
