New Fall and Winter Hours to Begin in September at Boyce Thompson Arboretum State Park

(Phoenix, Arizona - September 2, 2008) - The new fall and winter schedule begins September 1 at Boyce Thompson Arboretum State Park. Public hours will be from 8:00am until 5:00pm every day except Christmas. The Arboretum is Arizona's oldest and largest botanical garden encompassing 323 acres. There are 3,200 different desert plants within the Arboretum. More than 230 bird species have been documented through the years.

Dragonfly Walk to be Held September 6
Pierre Deviche has joined the Arboretum as a tour guide and will lead the Dragonfly Walk September 6. Queen Creek and Ayer Lake are pristine places to see Red Rock Skimmers, Blue-eyed Darners and various other species of these insect predators. The tour will begin at 9:30am and last one hour. Bring binoculars!

Learn Your Lizards Guided Tour Popular with Kids
Desert Spiny Lizards at the Arboretum can grow as big as bratwursts. The Learn Your Lizards Guided Tour is popular with children of all ages. Two more walks will be offered this summer September 7 and 13 for visitors to learn about common Sonoran Desert reptiles. The September 7 walk will be guided by Abi King and Mesa Community College Instructor Andy Baldwin. The one-hour tour will begin at 9:30am.

Reptile researchers King and Mike Sredi from the Arizona Game and Fish Department will guide the "season finale" one-hour walk September 13 beginning at 8:30am.
