(Phoenix, Arizona - August 26, 2008) - Would you like to join in a community of volunteers who are making a difference?
An orientation meeting will be held on Monday, September 22, from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Hummingbird classroom at the Park. The volunteer program will be previewed and questions answered about the role volunteers play in helping the Park meet its mission. We invite anyone interested to attend the orientation to learn more about the volunteer program.
Red Rock State Park's annual volunteer training class will start on Monday, September 29, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. New volunteers receive four hours of training each week for six weeks. Training covers all aspects of the work in the park, as well as the history of the park, botany, geology, archaeology of the area, and much more. At the completion of training, new volunteers mentor with others until ready to work on their own. After this initial training, volunteers are offered continued optional training to expand their knowledge and enrich their experience.
Successful volunteers enable the Park to offer these outstanding programs. Types of positions include, but are not limited to: entry station attendant, visitor center attendant, hike leader, trail patrol, school program teacher, landscaping, maintenance, audio visual and special projects.
Red Rock State Park has the distinction of being an Environmental Education Park, and each year thousands of visitors come to take advantage of the many activities offered by the Park, as well as enjoy its spectacular scenic beauty.
The Park features guided nature walks and bird walks throughout the year, and in the summer, moonlight hikes and sunset hikes are additional activities. Also offered by the Park is the highly successful School Outreach Program which provides State approved environmental training classes for Sedona, Verde Valley, Flagstaff, Prescott and Phoenix schools.
For more information, attend the orientation meeting, or call the Park at 928-282-6907. Red Rock State Park is located at 4050 Lower Red Rock Loop Road, Sedona.
