Events, Education Programs, Tours and Guided Walks at Boyce Thompson Arboretum State Park in October

(Phoenix, Arizona - August 18, 2008) - Boyce Thompson Arboretum State Park offers many different nature events including education programs, tours and guided walks.

The Dragonfly Walk will be held October 4 from 9:30am until 11:00am. Queen Creek and Ayer Lake are perfect locations to see Red Rock Skimmers, Blue-eyed Darners and various other species of these colorful insects. Bring binoculars.

Home school families are invited to attend the new Focus in Insects "BioDive" program, which allows high school participants to study wildflower and insect relationships, conduct insect and wildflower surveys, and gain experience recording data. The program will be held October 10 from 9:00am until noon. Phone 520-689-2723 for session details.

Autumn is the perfect time to plant herbs and prepare gardens for spring. You can purchase a wide range of flowering plants at the Fall Plant Sale to include succulents, herbs, cacti, shrubs, trees and much more during this annual fundraiser, which supports botany education and conservation efforts. The sale begins October 10 with the popular "members only" preview day with a 20% discount, and lasts until October 26. Hours are from 8:00am until 5:00pm.

The Edible/Medicinal Desert Plants Walk will be held from 1:30pm until 3:00pm October 11 and 26. During different tours, Jean Groen and David Morris discuss how desert plants have fed, clothed, and healed people for thousands of years. The tour trail is moderately steep and not wheelchair accessible.

Bible scholar David Oberpriller points out plants mentioned in the Bible and shares his knowledge about botany, history and Scripture during his Plants-of-the-Bible Guided Tour. The tour will be held October 18 from 1:30pm until 3:30pm.
