Get Involved! Verde River Clean-Up Needs Volunteers on May 10

(Phoenix, Arizona - April 30 2008) - On Saturday, May 10th at 8 a.m., volunteers will meet to tackle the trash clean-up along the Verde River as part of "National River Cleanup Week."

"National River Cleanup Week" is an annual event raising public awareness for the mountains of trash accumulating in our nation's waterways. Tens of thousands of volunteers will be taking part in hundreds of cleanups across the country to remove trash from rivers and streams. This year, 80 acres of state park land near Camp Verde will be cleaned and volunteers are still needed. Interested participants should wear gloves, long sleeves and pants. Snacks and refills for water bottles will be available.

Valley volunteers have already signed up from the Friends of the Verde River Greenway, Grand Canyon Chapter of the Sierra Club, Stewards of Public Lands, Verde River Citizens Alliance, Center for Biological Diversity, American Rivers and the Town of Camp Verde.

Directions to the event site: From I-17 turn east toward Camp Verde. After one mile, turn left on Finney Flat Road. Look for signs after ΒΌ of a mile that will direct you north toward the river.
