Jerome State Historic Park Conducts Free Geology Walking Field Trips for Kids

(Phoenix, Arizona - March 18, 2008) - Jerome State Historic Park will conduct two sessions of free "Geology Walking Field Trips for Kids" on Saturday, March 29 and Saturday, April 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The field trip will introduce kids to basic geology principles beginning with the three major rock types, igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic. They will learn to identify rocks and collect samples. Linda Heidenreich, local teacher, will be leading the tours. She has led geology field trips for kids for four summers.

The field trip is suitable for children aged 8 to 12 but is limited to 10 children. Pre-registration is required at least two days prior to the session. No drop-ins will be accepted. Kids should be dropped off at Jerome State Historic Park by 9 a.m. and picked up by 1 p.m. Because these are walking tours, please be sure your child has good walking shoes and is dressed appropriately for the weather including a hat.
