Facilities available at Fool Hollow Lake Recreation Area.
Apache–Sitgreaves Forest is in Stage 1 Fire Restrictions
Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. 551and 36 CFR § 261.50 (a) and (b), Prohibitions:
- Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, charcoal, coal, or wood stove
- Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable material.
EXEMPT FROM PROHIBITIONS NO. 1 (Developed Recreation, Administrative & Permitted sites)
Fool Hollow Lake Campground
Stipulations:
- Campfires in fire rings only
- Kept Small – generating no sparks
- Attended at all times
- Doused with water when done

This park has modern, handicap accessible restrooms.
Group: Day Use Areas
5-Day Use Ramada’s are available for your event. Each Ramada has picnic tables, a large charcoal grill (use contingent on fire restrictions), a serving table, electricity (15 amp service), a horseshoe pit and restrooms. Two playgrounds are centrally located. Day Use hours are 8 am to 8 pm.
Stellar Jay: 150 person maximum
Raven: 150 person maximum
Meadowlark: 150 person maximum
Flicker: 150 person maximum
Bluebird: 100 person maximum

Notes: No ground fires. No live or loud music. No glass containers. No piñata’s. No water balloons, confetti, chalk or paint.

Camping & RV Sites
Site reservations are available by calling the Reservation Center at (520) 586-2283. You can call 7 days a week, from 8 am to 5 pm MST. There is a $5 non-refundable reservation fee per site. You may also reserve campsites 24/7 for this park online ![]()
Check out time is 12 noon. Site renewal fees are due by 11 am. Important Note: At this park, the entrance gate is closed nightly at 10 pm.
Non-hook-up sites
31 sites: Maximum of 2 vehicles and 6 adults per site, 12 people total. Concrete pads, fire ring and picnic table, restrooms and showers.
Electric RV sites
92 sites: 30 Amp service (some 50 Amp available). Can accommodate up to 40-foot rigs. Water available at all sites. Mallard and Redhead Loops also have sewer available. Maximum of 2 vehicles and 6 adults per site, 12 people total.

Dump Station
A Dump station is available for registered campers from May 1st through October 15th.
Showers
Hot shower available at all camping loops at no extra charge for registered campers. Handicap Accessible.
Picnic Areas/Shelters
Nice spots for your gathering or a picnic are available on both sides of the lake.
Hiking Trails
A 1.5 mile walking trail runs along the South and West sides of the lake.
The White Mountain Trail System consists of eleven loop trails offering over 103 miles of hiking. Access points are located within 15 miles of the recreation area in the adjacent Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest.

Fishing
Show Low Creek flows into Fool Hollow Lake, providing a natural feeding ground for a variety of wildlife and a very diverse fishery. There are five fishing platforms around the lake. There are two fish cleaning station at the park.
Fishing opportunities are abundant with rainbow trout; large and small mouth bass, black crappie, green sunfish, channel catfish, walleye and Northern pike are all present in the lake.
A valid Arizona fishing license is required for anglers fourteen and older. Licensing information is available online at Arizona Game & Fish, or purchase a fishing license at a local dealer.
All Arizona boating laws apply, including PFDs, other safety equipment, registration etc. More information is available at the Arizona Game & Fish website.
Swimming
Swimming is allowed from your boat or the shoreline, but there is no specific swimming beach or area at this park. Swimming is at your own risk. No lifeguard on duty. We also encourage swimmers to wear water shoes to protect their feet from hazards.
Boat Ramp
Single lane boat launch ramps are available on the east and west sides of the lake. Maximum of 10 HP gasoline engines are allowed.
Non-Motorized Watercraft
Non-motorized watercrafts are welcome and may launch at either boat ramp. All boating laws apply.
Wildlife Viewing
Stay alert: Poisonous snakes and insects inhabit the area. Do not feed the animals and store all foodstuffs in secure containers or in your vehicles.
Waterfowl: (viewing varies from time of year) Mallards, Canada geese, various species of divers & dabblers, Great Blue Heron, Snowy Egret, American Egret, White-faced Ibis.
Neo-Tropical and Passerine species: (viewing varies from time of year) Stellar’s Jay, Lesser Goldfinch, numerous species of Blue Birds, Acorn Woodpeckers, Nuthatches and Red-shafted Flicker.
Raptors: Bald Eagle (winter), Osprey (summer), American Kestrel, Northern Harrier and Goshawk.
Common Mammals: Eberts Squirrels, Rock Squirrel, Gophers, Skunk, Raccoon, Beaver and Muskrat. Sightings of Elk, Bobcat, Coyote and Deer are not uncommon.
Snakes do inhabit the area, including the Western Diamondback snake.
Amphitheater & Intrepretive Area
The Amphitheater & Intrepretive Area is located on the East side of the park between the tent area and RV area. Join us on Saturdays at 7 pm from Memorial Day through Labor Day (weather permitting). Assorted topics include Smokey the Bear, elk, wildfire, Audubon Society, Bill Williams: Mountain Man and The Working Cowboy.
Also on Thursday mornings & Sunday Evenings experience: Assorted Living History Talks, Meetings, and Cowboy Coffee with a Ranger.
