Facilities available at Yuma Territorial Prison State Historic Park.
Visitor Center
The Yuma Territorial Prison Visitor Center includes a gift shop & restrooms. The park is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm until May 31, 2013. From June 1 – September 30, the park will be open 9 am to 5 pm, but will be closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The park will be closed for maintenance and repairs from August 3 – 25.
Restrooms
This park has modern, handicap accessible restrooms in the museum.
Gift Shop
Fun Prison T-shirts, baseball caps, keychains, handcuffs, and books about the prison are available in the gift shop inside the Visitor Center.
Museum
An introductory exhibit is located in the Visitor Center along with photographs. Outside buildings and features include original cellblocks, water tank, guard tower, sally port (entrance gate), library room, the dark cell, caliche hill, new yard and cells. Interpretive panels are situated throughout the historic site.
The 3600 sq. ft. museum houses a video presentation, original prison artifacts with exhibits interpreting prison history, prison staff and convicts. A large mural painting of Arizona Native Americans and scenery by a WWII Italian POW graces one of the walls.
Picnic Areas/Shelters
A picnic area located above the river with a view of California is a nice spot for lunch.
