Jerome Volunteer Opportunities

We need volunteers to interpret the park's and Jerome’s history. This park includes historic buildings and exhibits but you can’t talk about the park without understanding the town of Jerome and the mining history of Arizona. We are looking for volunteers that are comfortable talking to people, can be flexible and love history. We would like volunteers to commit to at least two days a month but schedules can be flexible. Please note that Specialists Volunteers require more skills, time and responsibility.

Historic Engine Specialist
We need volunteers who are willing to learn how to work several historic engines for demonstrations. This will include learning how to operate and maintain the equipment, learning it’s history and use so you can regale the visitors with great stories and the noise of a past era.

Education/Outreach Specialist
Jerome State Park is a great place to learn history and especially geology. We are looking for someone to develop and implement new educational programs for adults and children. This is a very open and creative position.

Any children’s programs would need to meet the State Education Standards and include opportunities for public, private and home schoolers. Experience in developing curriculums and educational programming preferred. These programs could include PowerPoint presentations, “campfire” talks, educational walks, workshops and temporary traveling exhibits.

Pianist
We have a square grand piano manufactured prior to 1850 that needs volunteers to play it. Applicants will need to audition and provide a resume of their musical experience. Since Jerome was most active between 1890 and the 1930s we like to have music from this time period included in any performance.

Maintenance & Groundskeeping
Volunteers work with maintenance Rangers to maintain park grounds, vehicles and structures in a safe and efficient manner.

Visitor Center Volunteers
The park needs volunteers to welcome visitors to the park, provide information on Arizona State Parks and the surrounding area, collect fees, help with the gift shop and answer phones. You will get to meet people from all over the world, learn interesting new things and have fun.
