Homolovi Ruins Volunteer Opportunities

Homolovi Ruins Volunteer Photograph
Pottery maker Dee Setalla demonstrates firing pottery for visitors at the park's annual Suvoyuki Days.

Review our list of positions and contact the Volunteer Coordinator with any questions or concerns.

Campground Hosts
Hosts check occupied sites and document license numbers. They also do light maintenance work in the campground which may include pruning of small trees, weeding, removal of bags of garbage, and checking restrooms. Campground Hosts do NOT collect money.

Interpretive Volunteer

Provides assistance at the park visitor center including collection of fees, provision of information to park visitors, and it may include the presentation of short programs and/or guided tours (depending upon the knowledge of the volunteer)

Maintenance Volunteer
We seek volunteers with carpentry, plumbing, and electrical skills to assist with ongoing maintenance of park facilities.

Horse Patrol
Through the Arizona Site Steward program, local horsemen and women check back country archaeological sites. Since this is a fragile grassland area, horses have less impact than vehicles.

Special Events Volunteer
Homolovi has activities throughout the year which require additional assistance. The annual Suvoyuki Days needs twenty volunteers including shuttle van drivers, people to man water stations during the morning run, parking assistants, people to provide information to visitors, and people to help put up and take down equipment before and after the event. We also need people to alternate at the entrance station. This is a “free” day and fees are not collected. Approximately 500 people attend this event, including many local people from Winslow and the Hopi Mesas.
