March 2014: Geo-Cache Bash

Participants use GPS units to find hidden caches of treasure throughout the park. It's the perfect way to combine a love of techno-gadgets with a love of the outdoors.

In March, Cattail Cove State Park hosts an annual geo-caching treasure hunt. Geo Caching is related to orienteering where people find their way using a compass, except that Geo Caching takes advantage of personal, handheld Global Positioning Systems, commonly referred to as GPS, to seek out a specific location.

The park encourages responsible Geo Caching practices in all natural settings, including limiting graffitti, digging, trash, illiegal off road vehicle use, vandalism, or caches near archeological sites or commercial use.

March 9, 2013: Annual Geo Cache Desert Bash

10 am - 2 pm. Cattail Cove SP will host the 7th Annual Geocache Desert Bash treasure hunt with a cactus walk, presentation and food! Geocaching is related to orienteering where people find their way using a compass, except that Geocaching takes advantage of personal, handheld Global Positioning Systems, commonly referred to as GPS, to seek out a specific location. Come join the adventure to find caches!
12:30 pm: Free Raffle Starts
1:00 pm: Grand Prize Drawing for a GPS unit!

Cattail Cove Wins Award for Its 2012 Centennial Event!

Cattail Cove State Park has won an AZTEC (Arizona Talent in Event Concepts) award for its official Arizona Centenntial Event Geo-Cache Bash. The Geo-Cache Bash was held March 2012 at the park, south of Lake Havasu City. The AZTEC awards strive to recognize outstanding examples of festival and event production and promotion in the State of Arizona. The park was honored for "Best AZ Centennial Extra Element" which recognized the park for producing an added element to an existing annual event.

The Geo-Cache Bash is an annual geo-caching treasure hunt event where teams were broken up into easy, moderate, and difficult cache groups and based on their specific missions set out to find treasures in the park using clues and their GPS systems. Following the Geo-caching, teams returned to the campgrounds and were entered into raffles for a brand new Garmin GPS system as well as other prizes such as cooking spices, key chains, and more. In addition to the raffle, the day featured live music, a tree dedication ceremony, a cactus garden nature walk through the park's newly-expanded cactus garden, plus presentations by both the Lake Havasu City Museum of History and the local chapter of the Arizona Site Steward program, In addition there was an AZ Centennial cake cutting! Another Geo-Cache Bash is being planned for 2013.

A panel of local professionals with expertise in the areas of public relations, marketing, special event management, graphic design and video production evaluated the entries. The award was presented on August 31, 2012 at the Talking Stick Resort & Casino and was accepted by Park Manager Gary Peaslee and volunteer event coordinator Joanna Scruggs. Congratulations Cattail Cove!
