Volunteer Opportunities

Alamo Lake Volunteer Photo
Visitor Services Volunteers assist the public in the park's Visitor Center and gift shop.

Alamo Lake State Park is a remote location that is 45 miles from the nearest town, and 85 miles from the nearest medical facility. The park does not have access to internet, and has spotty cell phone reception. However, full hook-up sites are available. Volunteers are asked to donate 20 hours per week per host. Visitor Services volunteers who assist in the park store must be available for six months from November through April. Campground hosts and Maintenance service volunteers should be available between November and May. Please contact the Volunteer Coordinator with any questions or concerns.

Campground Host
The Campground Host’s primary responsibility is to assist park visitors with lesser direct supervision than other park volunteers. This includes greeting visitors, communicating park rules & regulations, observing activities that require ranger attention, helping clean up litter and fire pits, along with minor park maintenance. Other duties may be assigned. Hosts provide their own lodging (tent, camper, trailer, motorhome) and are provided a free campsite in the Cholla Campground. The Park Manager or his/her designee will approve specific duty hours and assignments. The Park Manager or his/her designee will approve any change in duty schedules.

Maintenance Services
Maintenance Services volunteers will assist parks with general maintenance and small construction projects. Examples include trail work, painting, plumbing, weeding, planting, or other projects as designated by the Park Manager or his/her designee. Other duties may be assigned. The Maintenance Services position provides their own lodging (tent, camper, trailer, motorhome) and are provided a free campsite in the Main Campground. Volunteers will not be required to perform any extensive maintenance or repairs, especially to equipment and vehicles.

Visitor Services
The three Visitor Services positions assist in the Visitor Center and store. Duties include fee collection, administrative duties, reservation management and inventory. They also must possess the ability to run the cash register, make change, and answer questions from the public. Other duties may be assigned. The Visitor Services positions provide their own lodging (tent, camper, trailer, motorhome) and are provided a free campsite in the Main Campground.
