Welcome to the Arizona State Parks Audio Update, today we’re talking about the Arizona State Parks Gift Shop Program and the annual Holiday Sale that will take place Dec 15th through the 19th. The Gift Shop Program offers unique gifts and merchandise at a number of stores located in the parks as well as an online gift store. Your purchases directly support the Arizona State Parks system. Joining us today to talk more about the Gift Shop Program is Joanna Scruggs, Gift Shop Inventory Manager. Welcome to the program Joanna.
Joanna Scruggs, Gift Shop Inventory Manager:
Hi Tye, it’s a pleasure to be with you today.
Host:
Start us off with an introduction to the gift shop program, how many parks have gift shops?
Scruggs:
Of the 27 state parks around the state, 22 gift shops are actually managed by Arizona State Parks itself, there are several others that are managed by concessionaires.
Host:
And there’s also an online store that offers select merchandise correct?
Scruggs:
Yes there is. The online store offers primarily merchandise that has park specific designs or the Arizona State Parks logo on it.
Host:
Now a great idea for gift giving this season is an Arizona State Parks Annual Pass, tell us more about the different passes available and the benefits of each.
Scruggs:
Sure. We have the Standard Annual pass which costs $50 and it gets you into all of the state parks with the exception of the river parks on the weekends. If you’re interested in going to the river parks on the weekend you’d want to opt for the Premium Annual Pass which is $125 and that does cover all of the parks, seven days a week.
Host:
Now I know you also offer an Arizona State Parks ornament collection, with a different ornament being issued each year. Tell about this year’s ornament.
Scruggs:
This year’s ornament is really, really pretty. It’s a three inch diameter, unglazed ceramic ornament. On the fact of it is a beautiful photograph of an Arizona sunset with, of course, the state parks logo superimposed upon it. They’ve been out for about three weeks now and they are going very fast. So it’s a limited edition I would recommend getting one quickly if one is interested in one.
Host:
And new for kids this year, there are some unique t-shirts featuring the official mascot of the Junior Ranger Program Rocky Ringtail. Tell us more.
Scruggs:
Yes that’s right. This is an opportunity to promote the Junior Ranger program through state parks. Each park has its own Rocky Ringtail design and we have put them all on youth-sized t-shirts and they are glow in the dark; they actually light up in the dark with an iridescent glow. They are very cute and they have gone a long way toward calling attention to the state parks Junior Ranger Program.
Host:
Finally tell us about a few of the items that will be available in the annual holiday sale.
Scruggs:
We are going to have a lot of fun this year like we have had in year’s past. We have some specialty items we’ve ordered just for the sale. They’ll be salsas, and southwest spices, southwest candy, we are even featuring a chocolate covered prickley pear candy this year. We will be having of course the normal Arizona State Parks t-shirts. We’ll have the Rocky Ringtail for the Arizona State Parks Junior Ranger program. A lot of books, cookbooks that are appropriate for the holidays. Just a lot of great gift ideas that go well every year; people will come in and spend the entire week, off and on, during the entire week getting great gift ideas. And they always let us know how much they appreciate the opportunity.
Host:
And everything will be 20% off?
Scruggs:
Absolutely, yes sir.
Host:
Thank you for joining us today.
Scruggs:
Thank you for your interest in our program, we appreciate your support.
